My Business Experience
Ten (10) years with Carpenter/Robbins Commercial Real Estate in San Ramon, CA as a full-commission agent and top producer. I closed over 400 lease and sale transactions and participated in all facets of the process: marketing, sourcing clients, property tours, offers, reading contracts, tracking escrows, and follow up. Clients included The United States Postal Service, The City of San Ramon, E-Loan, Network Robots, Valley Oak Systems and many small business owners.

Three (3) years with BeConnected USA as a corporate relocation scout helping new employees from Pixar, Google and Apple navigate the neighborhoods of the San Francisco Bay Area and secure housing.

I also own my own properties and grew up in a real estate family that owns its own businesses.

In addition to real estate marketing, my marketing background consists of experience in public relations, journalism, blogging and publishing.

Look Ma! evolved from a project I accepted last year: to help a great real estate agent (my mom) find effective marketing channels on the Internet. While researching the vast array of marketing tools available to real estate agents and experimenting with many of those tools, I came to the conclusion that Internet video was the right vehicle for my next business. It had all the classic earmarks of a promising, emerging market: a superior communication medium marked by increasing consumer adoption, an under-served client base and investment capital flowing into technology tools.

What the heck does all that mean?

"a superior communication medium" - When skeptical people are confronted with conflicting information in the visual, vocal and verbal aspects of a message, they tend to trust the visual. I didn't make this research up - Dr. Albert Mehrabian, Professor Emeritus at UCLA did!

"increasing consumer adoption" - By all accounts, more and more people are watching Internet videos and sharing them with friends. Comscore and eMarketer research backs this up.

"under-served client base" - Most real estate videos have a low production value or are overly expensive and all are way too agent-oriented! My aim is to provide high production value at a great price, while revealing the 'thought leadership' of my clients.

"investment capital flowing into technology tools" - Video players and social networks are popping up like rabbits and many new tools are either here or on the horizon including: text-recognition (good for search-engine indexing), one-click video distribution to multiple platforms, and industry-specific mashups like Vook and CityTourVideo.com.

Why is Google so hot on video?

Google bought YouTube in 2006 and is building out server farms to handle the additional data load needed for this data-intensive, user-friendly tool. In addition, they are now adding video (pictures, maps, news) to their search engine results, also called "Universal Search Results." And in usual Google-fashion, they made their technology freely available both for users and the various social networks and web sites carrying video feeds.

I think what Google saw early on was that people's learning curves are better served by information platforms - video, blogs, and social networks - that are more convenient, more interactive and more intuitive than the old methods. Future generations are already using these platforms in school and you can bet these kids will be better equipped than their parents to navigate the next round of technology learning tools.

I don't know what the future holds in store for real estate professionals, but I do know I'll be there to help them adapt.

Eric-

Ethics lead to prosperity because ethical behavior leads to trust in people and contacts. Without this trust, people will second guess deals, focus on short term profits and have no recourse for regress of grievances.

This shuts down deal flow and commerce and leads to places like North Korea and the former Soviet Union where business is hard to do since everyone is trying to gain an unfair advantage.

Hi Eric,
We've had great results with our direct mail strategy. Just like farming, those clients that realize the most benefits are the ones that are hitting our markets every month. Like any type of marketing, consistency and frequency are going to determine success. Those agents that hop in and out are not fully benefiting from the power of direct mail to market themselves as agents in addition to their changing inventory.
